Goals For The New Year

Updated: Feb 21, 2019

The beginning of a new year can feel like a new start to many people, and although most people make new years resolutions, up to 80% of those resolutions fail by February. We are here with some useful tips to help you make realistic goals, and to follow through.

1. KNOW YOURSELF

Many people make unrealistic goals and understandably cannot keep them, because they are making resolutions without taking themselves into account. For example, a person who has not worked out in 5 years, but is making a goal to work out for an hour a day, every singly day in the new year is setting an unrealistic goal for himself. A more realistic goal would be for them to gradually add workouts into their schedule, and to not go from never working out to working out all the time. Have grace on yourself, be honest with yourself, and strive for progress, not perfection.

2. HAVE ACCOUNTABILITY

A study conducted by The American Society of Training Development found that those who make an intentional choice to have an accountability meeting with someone that they have committed to have a 95% chance of reaching the goal that they have set. Try to partner with like-minded individuals who have a similar goal as you do, whether your goal is financial, academic, spiritual, or related to your health or your career, accountability could be just the thing you need to help you reach your goals.

3. KEEP TRACK OF YOUR GOALS

Keep track of your progress in a journal and check back often to see your progress. Physically writing out your goals and then writing out your daily progress is a useful tool when it comes to keeping your goals for the New Year.4. HAVE FUN!Try to set goals that will be fun to reach and try to enjoy the process. Goals such as developing healthy new eating habits can be fun, and so can saving money and committing to read more books instead of watching television. When it comes to having success with resolutions, perspective is everything. Do your best to look on the bright side, and you are sure to be amazed with the results.
